It’s not always easy to see joy in everyday life. Our night was focused on how to see the good amid the crazy. Dinner from the 1840s – I thought this would have been fun – make a bunch of food that the sisters may have made back when the RS was organized.
I believe it was based on General Conference talks, and she had bought M&Ms for people to use as markers. You could have foods from different countries and regions. Remember, we celebrate the organization of the Relief Society to remind the sisters of its divine mission.

After watching the video, invite a priesthood leader to share some statements Joseph Smith made about the purpose and potential of the Relief Socirty. Gather some statements from the brethren in the ward on how the Relief Society contributes to the purpose of the gospel. Share them and lead a discussion exploring what the sisters can do to help the Relief Society live up to this great potential.
You might even include daughters as part of the program. You can find ideas for individual service projects from a local Deseret Industries; each DI should have an office dedicated to humanitarian aid. You can also schedule evenings for sisters to come in and work on on-site projects, such as assembling school kits.

Any type of video is fun – I think one that has pictures of all the sisters placed to music, excerpts from General Conference, etc. would be especially impactful. You can easily make these in iMovie or another free movie creator. I’ve heard of a lot of Relief Societies doing this lately, and I thought it was such a fun idea. Each sister brings one of her shoes and everyone places it on the table in the front of the room.
When everyone has written their ‘secret’ collect the envelopes. Hand everyone several small pieces of paper, and pass out the envelopes. Have everyone read the ‘secret’ on the envelope and then have them write the name of the person they think wrote the secret. Have them place the piece of paper inside of the envelope and pass the envelope to the next person. Pass the envelopes around until everyone has had a chance to see each envelope.

Ask sisters to sit at their birthday-month table. Serve dinner and have a speaker deliver a message on how to remember the Relief Society mission all year long by serving the sisters around us. This gives sisters a great opportunity to learn more about sisters with whom they don’t normally spend much time; it can also be a good occasion to discuss the blessings of visiting teaching. Another way to highlight Relief Society history is to share the video that was shown during the General Relief Society Meeting of 2005.
